Welcome to our town! Atlanta is known as the "Hub of the South", and is now considered as an International city. Atlanta was founded in 1837 as a junction between two railroad lines. Atlanta was originally named Terminus, and was renamed Atlanta in 1845. By the outbreak of the Civil War, Atlanta had emerged as a major manufacturing and distribution center in the South. By 1864, Union Army General William T. Sherman had put a quick end to Atlanta's progress by reducing the city to ashes in his "March to the Sea". Determined citizens, however, rebuilt their homes and businesses, and now Atlanta is one of the richest and most powerful cities in the nation.
